Shopping in New York City

One my favorite past-time for me is to shop for furniture, especially for a bargain.  This past weekend a couple of friends and I went shopping in Manhattan to a few great stores.   My friend found a similar chair as this in a thrift store for a whopping $20.00 (forgot to take a picture of the actual chair, you get the idea), .  I think it is a antique Chinese Chippendale chair, her chair was shaped little differently and in a natural bamboo color.  What a score!
Then we headed over to one of our favorite stores Nadeau.  This store has an amazing collection of unique, inexpensive, handcrafted furniture.  Great store!

Look at those incredible antique door hiding behind…

I love this bench!

I ended up buying these two huge, almost 8' tall bookshelves made of mahogany.  I have plans for them when I get back to my house (we are still displaced due to hurricane Sandy, ugh!).  I know they are two different colors, this is all they had and I loved there sheer size!  I plan to paint them distress black and maybe wallpaper the back panel.

Nadeau has locations all over the country, if you can find one near you, you should go, you will not be disappointed.

Hope you are having a great day!

Chicken coop turned coffee table

Here is another great project that my friend Kristin has done using an antique chicken coop.  In her travels to Upstate, New York, Kristin found this really fabulous chicken coop in an antique store.  Anyone else would have walked right by it and not have given it a second look, but Kristin knew exactly what the future held for this antique chicken coop.

When she brought it home, she cleaned it up thoroughly and did any minor repairs that needed to be done.
She installed casters on the bottom so that it is a versatile piece that can be easily moved around.  She had a glass cut to size and placed on top and viola, a unique coffee table!
 Doesn't this look fabulous?
By the way, there is a similar pigeon coop turned coffee table at Pottery Barn for almost $700.  This coffee table didn't cost a fraction of the Pottery Barn price.  Well done Kristin!

Isn't it great to give a contrasting life to an object?  Have you repurposed anything lately?

Have a great day!

Changes to Kristin's home

My last post was on Kristin's home and some altering and adding she was doing to her home.  She is still trying to recoup after hurricane Sandy like all of us here in Rockaway.  Her basement was flooded with a few feet of water, she is blessed it could have been much worse, because her house is the third house from the beach.  Kristin and her hubby have been diligently trying to get their home to some normalcy and they started some new projects along the way.  One of the projects was to finish the basement and use it as a place to entertain and hangout.  Eventhough, the basement was somewhat finished, Kristin didn't feel it was ready to be entertained in.  I don't have pictures before she started, I will show you as the basement progress.  You'll definitely want to see the finish, Kristin is an amazing interior decorator!

Before I show you the basement, here are a few changes she had made in her livingroom.  She is constantly moving furniture around and creating vignettes in every corner.

Isn't it is just beautiful?  Let's head downstairs to see the progress in the basement.

Do you see that incredible pallet wall back there, that was one of Kristin and her hubby's project they just completed.  I'll post the instruction for this awesome wall at a later date.  For now, let's look around!  Keep in mind, she has not completed this space, so there is a lot more to come.

She creates seating areas throughout the space.

I love this sectional from West Elm, it is comfortable and beautiful!

I love that plum wall!

Such a beautiful space this basement is turning out to be… Don't you agree?

Have a great day!

Revisiting Kristin's Home

Happy Friday everyone!  One of my all time favorite decorated spaces happens to be my friend Kristin's home.   She is like many of us, taking away,  adding, altering her home.  I love her elegant, cozy and stylish way of designing a space.  In a  few days,  I will sneak in and take some pictures of her home and show you some of the changes she has made.  For now, let me give you a recap of her beautiful home from a year ago.

Isn't this home gorgeous!  Be sure to come back to see the changes she had made within the last year!

Have a great day!
