I am in a state of disbelief seeing the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy. I feel like we are in a war zone, clouds of sandy dust everywhere and debris all over still. Over a hundred homes were destroyed from fires and basements and first floors of all the homes were destroyed.
The day before the storm hit all of Rockaway Beaches and along the coast line had to evacuate. My family and I literally headed for the hills, to the mountains in Upstate to our friend's house . My heart breaks for the people who lived through this tragic experience of their house being filled with water from the ocean and the bay. We live on a barrier island, we are surrounded by water, ocean on one side and a few block away is the bay. Once the surge of the water rose, there was no way out, people scrambled to find safety on the top floors in their home.
Everyone lost their cars, cars were floating down the street or submerged under water. My husband's pick up truck was submerged under water too, now we have to replace the truck so he can go back and forth to work. He is not the only one, it is all of the people on the coast and the badly hit areas. There are not enough rental cars to accommodate for all the people in need of cars. There also haven't been any gas at the gas stations to fill up the cars or generators. The lines at the gas stations goes on for miles, such a bizarre sight. So even if you have a car, there is no gas, go figure!
My family and I have been staying at a friends house which I'm so grateful. It is a small apartment so I must find an apartment or house to rent til I get my house redone. Enough of complaining, all of us who were struck by this hurricane are in the same boat!
I pray for the people who lost their loved ones and their homes in this hurricane. I pray that the people find homes and restore their lives as quickly as possible.

Glorious time at the beach...
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Lately, I have been doing a lot of DIY projects in my head and not actually doing them. My plan is to really get some of them done… Does anyone else do that? Spend so much time thinking about what you are going to do, yet nothing really comes to fruition or is it just me? Can anyone say "the world's biggest procrastinator", that is me! I hope I have something to show you this week or I am just going crack up!!
Well anyway, we had a beautiful weekend, the weather was perfect, we went for a walk on the beach with our dog Ringo and the kids had so much fun! The water looked amazing, so enticing… of course the kids couldn't resist they dove into the water, clothes and all! Don't they realize its mid October in New York, the water is freezing… They ran home and took a hot shower, made up for their absurd spontaneity.
Ringo found a playmate too… Sooo cute!

All Hallows Eve pumpkin decor
I had so many things going on lately, I haven't had much time to decorate for fall or halloween. I usually have a nice little display with a life size witch, 7ft. tall frankenstein, other scary objects strewn on my lawn. So far, I just have a few pumpkins and some orange mums haphazardly in front of my front door. I am hoping at least today I'll round up the kids and do a little fall decorating.

New look for an Ikea desk
I found this great project while I was browsing the internet that I must try. Since I take so long to get fired up to do any projects lately, I thought I show you via the site I found it on matsutakeblog.
You need a basic unfinished dining table from Ikea for $69.
Just cut a few strips of 1x2 to make the sides. The base of the new side (that horizontal strip on the floor) is a 2x2. Join all the pieces of wood with dowels.
This method of joining wood doesn't require any special tools other than a drill, it makes a clean joint with no hardware sticking out, and the bond is extremely strong. (1) Drill a hole, (2) fill it with glue and stick a piece of dowel in it, (3) drill a hole in the other piece and fill it with glue, (4) push it into the dowel and connect. Wipe off the excess glue.

Glorious autumn!
Most of us here in New York had a three day weekend because of Columbus Day. We decided to visit our friends in Upstate New York, their house is perched upon a mountain, perfect place take in the beauty of fall. Most of all we couldn't wait to see Grizzly, their dog, oh of course our friends too! Ha Ha! Their dog, Grizzly is a rare breed dog called Sarplaninac, Macedonian-Yugoslav sheep dog they are rare here in the States. My friends entered him in a contest this past weekend at the American Rare Breed Association and Grizzly walked away with 49 ribbons! Congratulations Grizzly! He is enormous, gorgeous and sweet temperment!
We took a hike up the mountain to take in some incredible views!
We had such a wonderful weekend… Well needed time away especially for my hardworking husband!
