D.I.Y. Pallet wall

My friend Kristin has become a major contributor to my blog with her unique DIY projects and showcasing her beautiful home decor, if you missed it you can see it here and here.   Kristin and her husband recently began their mission to makeover their basement.  One of the projects that they were going to tackle is a pallet wall and a pallets surrounding their bar area (bar area is not yet complete, I'll show you at a later date along with finished basement).  

Here is the way the pallet wall turned out… Isn't it cool!

Kristin's husband had the grueling task of finding pallets during his walks in the area, lugging them home one by one and cleaning them with bleach (I'm sure he wasn't a very happy camper!)  It is all for the greater good, he was able to recycle these pallets instead of them going in the garbage.  He managed to round up about 30 of them. After they were cleaned and slightly sanded, he cut off the nails keeping the nail heads showing, which looked great!  

The wall they were adhering to was a concrete wall, so first they glued on a piece of plywood and anchored it to the wall.  

They staggered the planks on the floor to get an idea of how it was going to look when it was up on the wall.  Then cut the end pieces with a chop saw, this would be the best tool for this job it will give nice straight cuts.

Kristin and her husband said it is a bit of hard work preparing the wood, then after that the installation is quite easy.  I think this wall turned out fabulous! Great job to the dynamic duo!
