A fabulous find!

My family and I took a mini vacation to a resort in Pennsylvania recently to get re-energized.  I love going to PA.,  I am always on the look out to find some treasures in antique stores along the way.

And really, I was not disappointed… On the way home, I spotted this beauty just standing there in front a cute little antique store just waiting for me to pick it up.  The store owner said it was damaged and she had tried to repair it,  but no success.  So, I told her I'll give it a try and I will take it off her hands for a mere $25.  When I got home, I inspected this beauty and it did have some knicks and gauges, the legs are a bit uneven.  Nothing a little putty and tweeking can't fix.  It had such gorgeous detail, I was in love!

I decided to paint it, so now, the big question is what color to paint?

In my shopping excursion to one of my favorite stores, HomeGoods I found this beautiful sunburst mirror painted in a gray.  Maybe, I can paint it gray and have the dark wood showing through?

Or maybe these finishes?

I love the look of this wood achieved by Savvy Southern Style.

Here it is again...

What do you think?  Do you have any idea what color I should paint this beautiful table, to bring out its gorgeous details even more?

House update

My post hurricane Sandy repair has been a very slow and daunting task, at least it is for my husband, who is doing the repairs.  I feel like it is going to take forever to get back into my house and we are going a bit stir-crazy living in our temporary house.  So, what's a girl to do but shop for furniture for a house that is not ready yet!

Since my sofa drowned in my livingroom during the hurricane (I didn't like that sofa anyway!), my darling husband surprised me with this gorgeous sofa from my all time favorite designer, Candice Olson!  He's the best, so is she!  I must say that this sofa is not just well built, it has beautiful lines, gorgeous nailheads going down the arms and it's upholstered in Sunbrella fabric for durability.  I love it!

I also bought these two massive bookcases from a store in Manhattan,  which I plan to paint them white and put them in my livingroom.

I am going to put these beautiful three piece cabinet from Home Decorators between the two bookcases, I think it will really nice.

I bought other odds and ends, still have more to buy, except I should wait till I have a livingroom, says my husband!  I can't wait to bring it all together!

Here is the progress on the house so far…

Last update, all the first floor exterior walls were replaced with all new supports, walls and windows.

Now, almost all closed up and house is getting wrapped.

Inside, all new floor beam were being installed, it will be stronger than ever!

Nothing to do, but wait patiently till its finished!  Unless, the anticipation gets the better of me and I'll have do more shopping and do some real damage!

Thanks for stopping by!
I'd love to hear from you.

Decorating with ornamental grass

Some plants such as Maiden grass have to be cut back around February before new growth.  My friend Kristin cut her ornamental grass from her yard at the end of the season and brought it inside her home. She tied the bottom of the bunch with raffia and put it in a tall vase with sand and seashells.  It's natural free flowing appearance softens the space.

The vase filled with bouquet of grass sits on top of a beautifully painted cabinet adding a tropical beachy feel to her foyer.

Have a great day!
